About RunSight

What is RunSight?

A wearable AI guide for visually impaired runners: glasses with a camera, a small computer worn in a vest, and an earphone. It watches the running lane and the people ahead, and speaks short cues while you run.

Who is it for?

Blind and low-vision runners who train on tracks, and the coaches, clubs and companions around them. It is designed for a running track, not for street navigation.

Can I buy one?

Not yet. RunSight is a working prototype from a student team, not a product on a shelf. If you want to hear when that changes, get in touch.

Is it a medical device?

No. It is not certified, not regulated, and has not been validated as a medical or safety-critical device.

Does it replace a guide runner or a white cane?

No. It is built to reduce dependence on a guide runner for training, not to remove the need for a cane, a companion where one is needed, or your own judgement.

Using it

Where does it work?

On running tracks with visible painted lane lines. The models were trained on Indonesian tracks, including Patriot Candrabhaga Stadium. It is not a street or trail device, and it has not been tested as one.

Does it need the internet?

Never during a run. The device does its own perception, guidance, tracking and storage. Your phone is only needed afterwards, to pull the run off the device and upload it.

What does it say?

Today: “Move left”, “Move right”, “Caution, person ahead”, and “Stop, person ahead”. Turn and slow-down cues are planned but not in the on-device loop yet.

What language does it speak?

The spoken cues are English strings today; the language setting is not yet wired to the voice. The app interface is available in Indonesian, and Indonesian voice output is on the list.

Do I need my phone with me while I run?

No. A run works with your phone in a bag, or left at home. The device holds the run until the app comes back to collect it.

Safety

What are the current limits?

It has not been validated on production hardware as a safety-critical product. Several health signals, such as battery, storage and temperature, are placeholders in the current build. And no trials with visually impaired runners have happened yet.

Is it safe to use on a public track?

Treat it as an assistive prototype used under supervision, not a replacement for your usual precautions. Everything in the answer above is why.

Data & privacy

What does it store?

A run: GPS route points, distance, duration, pace, events, and the guidance system's own counters. It is written to the device first, handed to the app, and then to the account you created.

Who can see my runs?

Nobody, unless you share them. A share link is created by you and dies when you revoke it. Publishing a route to Safe Routes is a separate, deliberate action.
